East China Sea dispute heightens

China said Japan should abandon its plans to allow its companies to drill for oil and gas in the disputed area of the East China Sea, following Japan's announcement that it would issue exploration rights in the area. Japan's move came after China's largest offshore oil firm, CNOOC Ltd, said it would drill there.
