East China Sea dispute unsettled

China rejected Japan's request Tuesday to halt its gas field exploration in the disputed area of the East China Sea, as two days of talks on the issue ended in stalemate, the Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed Japanese official. Japan agreed to consider a Chinese proposal for joint gas development and both sides agreed to more talks in the future.
