Three Chinese nationals who work for a unit of the Japanese trading company Marubeni (8002.TYO) have been detained in China on suspicion of smuggling soyabeans, Financial Times reported, citing the customs bureau in Qingdao. The detention at the main port in Shandong province, which came to light on Wednesday, was part of an apparent investigation into tax payments on imported soyabeans. The detention came to light on the same day that Mitsui OSK Lines (9104.TYO), the Japanese shipping group, agreed to pay to secure the release of a bulk container ship impounded by a Chinese court in a decades-old wartime compensation dispute.
