Ericsson wins GSM bid in Chongqing

Stockholm-based Ericsson said it has signed a US$27 million GSM expansion contract with Chongqing Mobile Communication Company to supply infrastructure and service equipment, including switching platforms, radio base stations and network deployment and support systems. The expansion scheme paves the way for much increased capacity for handling high-speed data and prepares the telecom for smooth transition to 3G technology, officials said. The project is scheduled to be completed by yearend.
