Essay-for-sale is a thriving business

[photopress:essaywiz.jpg, full, alignright]If you have to write an essay at university you can pay someone to do it for you. Some legal experts are of the opinion that ‘No explicit provision means it is not a crime.’ Morally reprehensible, yes. Illegal, no.

According to Chinese media reports, the demand for final reports has increased, especially at Beijing universities. The essay-to-order business has been thriving since 2001.

To purchase an essay, the buyer contacts a seller through e-mail, telephone, or QQ (a popular Chinese instant messenger program) and provides the topic, professional field (major), word count, and due date.

Prices depend on the word count and degree of complexity. For example, a 10,000-word bachelor’s degree final paper would cost roughly $400, a Master’s degree final thesis would be approximately $800, and an MBA final thesis US$1,000. An additional fee is charged for translating an essay into English.

Many educators believe that buying an essay is truly an ethical low and a desecration of the educational system. It has been proposed that joint law enforcement, from both education and Internet regulators, work to ban this kind of website. However, the police response is that without a law in place, no crime has occurred.

Fortunately, most university students do not feel at ease with depending on others to write their papers. After all, the final thesis represents one’s achievements after years of study.
