The EU has reached agreement on imports of Chinese-made television sets with seven of the country's largest manufacturers, Reuters reported. Under the agreement, products will be exempted from a 44.6 per cent anti-dumping duty, on condition that the manufacturers accept a limit on the number of sets and that they are sold at an agreed minimum price.
Details were not given, but South China Morning Post quoted unnamed sources within China as saying that the total annual quota was set at 400,000 units. From January to July this year, China exported 9.26m television sets worth US$1.08bn, 47 per cent more than in the same period of 2001.
