The European Union has started investigating allegations of dumping by Chinese steelmakers, the Wall Street Journal reported. The investigation will take seven to nine months and will focus on stainless steel cold-rolled flat products. The EU will soon announce separate investigations into three other kinds of steel. South Korea and Taiwan steel imports are also the subject of separate EU investigations. If the EU finds evidence of dumping, or exporting below cost, it can impose punitive tariffs. China’s Ministry of Commerce said it hopes to resolve the issue through negotiation.
