The EU will call on China to step up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cooperate on energy security when External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner begins economic talks in Beijing on Wednesday. The talks are intended to thrash out the details of a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which is to replace the trade and economic pact signed by China and the EU more than 20 years ago, Reuters reported. In addition to trade and economic issues, the agreement will cover agriculture, transport, customs, education, science, information, security and counterterrorism, the environment and energy. The EU announced plans last week to cut its greenhouse gas emission and it wants heavy polluters like China to follow suit.
