China Telecom and Haier have jointly launched an E-store project in line with the "internet of things" concept. This refers to the networked interconnection of everyday objects. Under this concept, your refrigerator can speak to your electric stove, your air-conditioner and any other electronically driven device. A self-configuring wireless network of sensors interconnects them.
The idea is simple, the application difficult. But eventually it is possible that all electronic machines in the home and factory will have minuscule identifying devices which interconnect. This would stop you running out of goods but would also make theft or normal loss effectively impossible.
This is an amazing future world, and its market scale is expected to exceed RMB200 billion (US$30 billion) in 2010.
CapitalVue reports that in addition to China Telecom, Haier Group has also cooperated with real estate developers to sell its intelligent home appliances and digital community products.
