A former executive at a local government-backed bank has been detained for forging official documents to create fake identities for numerous house purchases, The Wall Street Journal reported. Gong Ai’ai owned 41 properties in Beijing and four in Shaanxi. It is unknown when Gong amassed her properties. Under current restrictions, some Chinese cities place limits on purchases of more than one home. Seven people were detained last week for helping Gong buy the properties under fake names. On Tuesday, authorities also announced a probe into whether Zhao Haibin, a police official in southern Guangdong, owns an excessive number of properties through fake identities as whistle-blowers have alleged.
