[photopress:hacker_1.jpg,full,alignright]Wang Xinjun, researcher of Academy of Military Sciences. has made the plea for international cooperation to prevent hackers’ attacks instead of blame the attacks on any country, especially China.
He said, quite correctly, ‘It’s very strange and surprising that only one or two websites of attacks are from China among the thousands hackers’ websites, some officials and media arbitrarily blame these attacks on China.
‘In fact, hackers attacks on China’s computer system have surged in recent years and China is facing more severe situation of information security than any Western country. But Chinese government never blames it on any other country and insists on calling for international cooperation to crack down on internet-wrecking crime.’
He is perfectly right in saying that China is simply not responsible, in the direct sense, for attacks on other computers. But, in an indirect sense, there is a responsibility. The Chinese systems are so security-lax that it is common practice for hackers to start off by going through China and then heading elsewhere.
This editorial comment comes from one of the most experienced hackers in the world who is also the author of The Hacker’s Handbook which could be regarded the basic work on the subject.
Wang Xinjun said the most effective way to fight Internet-wrecking crimes is to strengthen international cooperation. He said, ‘Countries should strengthen exchanges of information on hackers’ attacks and make it easier for other countries to track down the hackers.’ It will not be easy but a concerted effort with all governments co-operating is the only way hacking attacks will be stopped.
