Fiat has decided to come back to China through its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). Its first attempt was in 2007 with Nanjing Automobile which did not work. Then it tried a partnership with Chery Automobile which did not get off the ground.
Now Zheng Xiancong, general manager of GAC-Fiat, has announced they will rebuild the Fiat brand and roll out a new model each year.
GAC-Fiat plans to introduce several classic Fiat models such as the Bravo. Zheng said there is a five-year development plan for Fiat to build its market in China for a second time. GAC and Fiat signed a 50-50 joint venture agreement in July of last year.
SearchAutoParts.com reports GAC-Fiat will enter China with the C-Medium sedan using an entirely new platform suited to Chinese market conditions. The C-Medium is expected to be launched in 2012.
