The first bitcoin ATM has been installed in China despite caution from regulators about the use of digital currencies, Reuters reported. BTC China, one of the country’s leading digital currency exchanges, has installed the unit at a technology park on the outskirts of Shanghai. The company also launched an online app allowing individuals to buy and sell bitcoins using mobile phones. Rising interest from mainland Chinese speculators was credited for driving up global bitcoin prices last year to above US$1,000 on some exchanges. In December, the central bank banned financial institutions from trading in bitcoin. It did not ban trading by individuals.
