Eagle United Airlines Co Ltd announced that it will launch services this year, becoming China's first-ever private airline. Eagle United is based in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
The low-cost carrier said it will launch its first route, between Chengdu and Shanghai, later this year.
Eagle United received legislative approval to operate a private airline in late 2003, but it is still awaiting approval by aviation authorities regarding its aircraft purchases, pilot qualifications and flight routes.
Eagle United will begin with registered capital of US$12 million and three to five aircraft in its fleet. It said that it aims to undercut its competitors' prices by 20%.
