China confirmed Monday the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in northwest China’s Ningxia region and east China’s Jiangsu province, state media reported. The Ministry of Agriculture said 89 cattle and 110 sheep were culled in Xuanhe Town, Zhongwei City in Ningxia, after two cattle were confirmed with the Asia I strain of foot-and-mouth. In Xuzhou, Jiangsu, 100 cattle were killed after 20 cows were confirmed to have contracted the same strain. The ministry said the outbreaks had been brought under control, and the surrounding areas sealed off and disinfected.
