He said China will let telecom operators select third-generation mobile platforms on their own, with the government officially expressing no preference.
When asked if the government will subsidize companies deploying TD SCDMA, Jiang Yaoping, said, ‘We stay keep neutral on the selection progress for 3G standards, and support all the 3G standards including WCDMA, CDMA 2000 and the home-developed TD SCDMA.’
He also emphasized that 3G mobile phone services will be offered on the mainland in time for the Beijing Olympics. Earlier, information industry minister Wang Xudong said China will award domestic telecom operators licenses for third generation mobile very soon.
