Former top general charged with bribery

Xu Caihou, former vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), is being charged with bribery, The South China Morning Post reported. The retired top general, who was CMC vice-chairman from 2004-2012, is now the highest profile anti-corruption case in the history of the People’s Liberation Army. Xu confessed to taking “extremely large” amounts of bribes in exchange for promotions. The announcement came as the party released a detailed plan to revamp the nation’s legal system and further battle corruption.
