Press freedom in Hong Kong has declined for the second straight year, Hong Kong Free Press reported, citing the results of a survey by the Hong Kong Journalists Association. The survey – which began in 2013 and is conducted in conjunction with the University of Hong Kong Public Opinion Programme – dropped 0.7 points to 38.2 for journalists and 1.4 points to 47.4 for the general public compared to 2014. 54% of public respondents and 85% of journalists believed press freedom had declined, with both groups perceiving a rise in self-censorship. 88% of journalists and 57% of public respondents also believed the purchase of South China Morning Post by Alibaba threatened press freedom.
