GDP grows 9.1% in 2003

China's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2003 hit RMB 11.7 trillion (US$1.4 trillion), up 9.1% over the previous year, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

The GDP rise represented the highest growth since 1997 and the per capita GDP reached a record US$1,090.

The government predicted that the country's economy would grow above 7% year-on-year in 2004.
