Generating capacity to exceed 500m kw

Beijing said an additional generating capacity of about 65m kw will be put into operation this year as China's total installed generating capacity is on track to exceed 500m kw in 2005, up 10% on a year ago, while total electricity consumption is estimated at 2.4trn kw/h, up 14% over a year ago, state media reported. The China State Electricity Regulatory Commission said the improving performance of major power grids nationwide should diminish power blackouts and supply restrictions in 2005.
