German router maker asks EU to resume China probe

A German maker of routers and other communications equipment has asked the European Commission to resume a probe into allegedly unfair subsidies given by Beijing to Chinese wireless modem manufacturers, Dow Jones reported. Hamburg-based 4G Systems said that decreasing prices of modems made by Chinese manufacturers including Huawei Technologies and ZTE (000063.SZ) caused 4G to lose many of its largest customers. The European Commission had been investigating possible Chinese subsidies following complaints from a Belgian firm, Option NV (OPTI.BT). But Option later withdrew its complaints after reaching a "cooperation agreement" with Huawei.
