Ghana has detained 166 Chinese suspected of illegal gold mining and prostitution and plans to deport them, Bloomberg reported. The Chinese were detained between June 1 and June 5, with some holding expired residence permits, a spokesperson for the Ghanaian immigration department said in a phone interview. Ghana is waiting on the deportations for the Chinese themselves or Beijing to pay for transportation. Shanglin county, in China’s southwest, warned that residents should not go to Ghana to gold mine as some of the detainees were identified as being from the county. The county will pay for return tickets for the miners, state media reported.
