Global giants bid for nuclear plant project

In the face of China's aims to construct more nuclear power plants to meet its energy demand, three global nuclear power players will compete in a bid to build four nuclear plants, state media reported. The three contenders, US-based Westinghouse, France's Areva and Russia's AtomStroyExport (ASE), will submit their proposals Monday to build the facilities, which will be housed in the Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces. Westinghouse, with no power plant contracts under its belt despite its two-decade presence in China, says it has secured a US$5bn construction loan to help meet China's financial requirements. ASE is currently involved in the construction of two nuclear power plants in China.
