The independently produced Climate Action Tracker has predicted a global temperature rise of about 3 degrees Celsius by 2100, the lowest since scientists set up the tracker to monitor governments’ emissions pledges in 2009, Reuters reported. The study, issued during UN talks on global warming in Lima, said the rate was 0.2 to 0.4C less than projected after announcements from China, the US and European Union in recent weeks concerning emissions plans and projections, but a warming of 3C is still far above a global goal of limiting average surface warming to 2C, viewed as a threshold for ever-more damaging disruptions to the climate.
