US automaker General Motors (GM) plans to double its vehicle sales in China to more than 2 million units by 2013, Reuters reported, citing state media. GM’s spokeswoman in China, Sophia Luan, said GM plans to add more than 30 new or upgraded models in China in the next five years. GM has been hit by a steeper-than-expected downturn in North America and may be forced into bankruptcy if it cannot complete a restructuring by a US government-imposed June 1 deadline. However, March sales in China rose 24.6% from a year earlier to 137,004 vehicles, setting a company record for monthly sales.
