GM soybean imports resumed

China has issued temporary safety permits for imports of bio-engineered food products, allowing the resumption of imports of soybeans from the US, Reuters reported. Imports were halted last year after China issued new rules on the use of genetically modified products. Seventy per cent of the US crop is bio-engineered. Before the halt, China’s imports of US-produced soybeans and soy products was worth US$1bn a year.
