General Motors became China’s top-selling foreign automaker last year, surpassing Volkswagen, according to company figures released Thursday. GM sales grew 35.2% to 665,390 vehicles in 2005. South Korea’s Hyundai and Japan’s Honda also reported strong growth, while Volkswagen, the former market leader, experienced declining China sales in 2005. Sales were driven by the popularity of the Buick, both its Excelle and hatchback, with 105,000 of these models sold up to September.
