Sustainable mobility sounds so much better than avoiding traffic jams. A "Blue Paper" published by General Motors outlines its vision of sustainable mobility and was created using information gathered at six forums GM hosted at the SAIC-GM Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
The paper addresses the growing challenges associated with rising urbanization and the greater demand for transportation with respect to energy, environment, safety, congestion and land use, Canadian Driver reported.
It envisions a new automobile world based on electrification and connectivity, and promises a cleaner, safer and more convenient future for urban transportation. Which is, as it were, the view from the top of the mountain. Whether the public will fit in with any such plans is open for debate.
The paper suggests vehicles of the future will be increasingly powered by electricity, connected continuously to the communications infrastructure, electronically controlled, autonomously driven when desired, and flexibly designed to meet specific use requirements.
