Go-ahead for ocean corridor project

The Chinese government has decided to go ahead with the Yantai-Dalian railway ferry project in northeast China, reported China Daily. The 147km-long line will connect the southern tip of the Liaoning Peninsula and the northern end of the Shandong Peninsula. Being much shorter than existing routes, the Ministry of Railways believes the new line will attract significant cargo traffic – 6.5m tons by 2005 and 8.3m tons by 2007.

Zhang Yanzhao, director of the international co-operation department under the Ministry of Railways, said that the project would be open to foreign investors.
