'Go north' says Liaoning governor

The national policy of revitalising old industrial bases could produce quick results in Liaoning, said provincial governor Bo Xilai. While Beijing's 'go west' campaign aimed at boosting investment in China's interior will take years to develop fully, Liaoning's well developed infrastructure and educated workforce could lead to obvious results by 2007, he claimed.

Premier Wen Jiabao has visited Liaoning three times this year to help map out the province's development strategy. Proposals backing plans to make the northeast a new high-growth zone are to be presented at this month's 16th Communist Party Congress.
