A unit of electronics retalier Gome Electrical Appliances Holding has been charged with bribery by a Beijing court, but the company said it did not expect a "substantive adverse effect" on its operations, the Wall Street Journal reported. The bribery charges brought by the second intermediate People’s Court of Beijing Municipality are connected to charges brought against Gome founder Huang Guangyu, who was detained in November 2008 for economic crimes, and officially indicted in February on charges of insider trading, bribery and illegal business dealings. The new charges allege Gome Appliance Co engaged in bribery between 2006 and 2008 involving a total of about US$668,000. Gome Electrical Appliances Holding said a guilty verdict against the unit would at worst result in a fine.
