Google confident it will secure China license

Google Inc (GOOG.NASDAQ) chief executive Eric Schmidt is confident the company will get its license to operate a mainland website despite speculation that Beijing could reject its application, Reuters reported. "We would expect we would get the necessary license," said Schmidt. "We now expect to get renewal." Google’s stock has fallen over 26% so far this year, partly due to its January decision to stop censoring its China website and threat to shut down its mainland search operations. In an effort to appease Beijing, Google said it would stop redirecting mainland users to its uncensored Hong Kong search page. The company is currently waiting for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology response to its application for a renewal of its Internet Content Provider license.
