Google Earth releases satellite images of quake zone

Google (GOOG.NASDAQ) released satellite images yesterday which show the damage wrought by last week’s earthquake in Qinghai which killed more than 2,000 people, AFP reported. The images are available on Google Earth, and include before and after photos of damaged areas. Google said the images were obtained with the assistance of US-based satellite company GeoEye. Google said that Chinese users had helped create a crisis response page for the earthquake, including a "China Person Finder" tool which allows users to search for information about quake victims in Chinese and English. The "My Map" feature allows users to contribute data about rescue efforts in specific areas. Google’s relations with Beijing have been strained since it withdrew from the country complaining about hacker attacks.
