In response to a lawsuit brought by Beijing-based mid-range hotel chain Orange Hotel Group, Shanghai-based economy hotel chain GreenTree Inn announced it has never entered search engine-related partnership with Alibaba Group subsidiary China Yahoo nor has it ever purchased any keywords related to ‘Orange Hotel.’
The Beijing Morning Post reported earlier that Orange Hotel was suing GreenTree and Alibaba for RMB107,000 for unfair competition.
Orange Hotel claimed that China Yahoo search results for ‘Orange Hotel’ were topped by a link to GreenTree’s website. The link had a tag ‘booking Orange Hotel rooms doesn’t compare to booking with GreenTree’.
GreenTree said in a statement that Orange Hotel had not contacted the company regarding the issue prior to filing suit.
