Officials in Guangdong province said they hoped to start offering travel permits to mainlanders from other parts of the country, said Hong Kong's The Standard. If approved by the central government, the plan is likely to lead to an influx of tourists to Hong Kong and Macau.
The cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai propose to issue travel documents to the hundreds of thousands of business delegates who attend conferences and trade fairs every year. Currently, Chinese citizens can only apply for overseas travel documents in the place where their residency is registered.
