Guangzhou officials slam Ministry of Railways

Members of Guangzhou’s People’s Congress and its advisory body have criticized railway authorities for the chaos that left hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded during the Chinese New Year holiday, the South China Morning Post reported. Guo Xiling, vice-chairman of Guangzhou’s Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, called for firings at the Ministry of Railways. He said the ministry sold train tickets when it was aware transport between Guangdong to Hunan was virtually paralyzed by snow storms. He also said rail officials aggravated the problem with an empty promise that all passengers would be able to return to their homes before the new year. Other authorities criticized the railway for not sharing information on ticket sales and delays.
