The American branch of luxury company Gucci has asked a US judge to hold Bank of China (BoC) in contempt for failing to comply with a court order to turn over documents related to a counterfeiting case, Bloomberg reported. In papers filed Tuesday, Gucci, Chloe SAS and Alfred Dunhill, claimed that BoC had refused to surrender records of companies that had been counterfeiting goods. They want BoC to pay US$4 million in damages in addition to daily fines until the lender complies with the court order. The luxury fashion brands a US$4.3 million judgment against several companies involved in a counterfeiting scheme, for which a BoC account was a “central instrument.” BoC was not a defendant in the case. However, US$4 million of that sum has yet to be recovered and the plaintiffs are hoping to follow the money trail for funds that were wired into accounts in New York and China.
