The Guiyang-Guangzhou railway, one of the country’s major railways connecting southwest China to the booming Pearl River Delta regions, is expected to commence construction in mid-October this year.

The 857 kilometer electrified railway, linking Guiyang, capital city of southwest China’s Guizhou province, with Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong province, is a joint investment by the Ministry of Railways, Guizhou and Guangdong provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The new railway, involving an investment of approximately RMB85.8 billion in total, is scheduled to be operational in 2012.

The Guiyang-Guangzhou railway, which will cut travel time between the two cities from 20 hours to 6 hours, will further help to boost the transportation and logistics development in Pearl River Delta regions, including Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
