Hainan Airlines has cut an order for 50 ERJ 145 jets from Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA to 25 aircraft.
Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry, as Embraer’s joint venture is known, had delivered 12 jets to Hainan as of April 30. Embraer agreed to deliver further jets by the first half of 2011, instead of the end of 2010.
Bloomberg reported Embraer, as the Brazil-based aircraft maker is known, last week reported its first loss on record in the first quarter because of fewer shipments and expenses from job cuts.
The third largest aircraft maker in the Americas slashed more than 4,000 jobs in February as demand fell amid a global credit crunch.
Hainan Airlines originally signed a contract for 50 ERJ 145 jets and 50 Embraer 190 jets in August 2006. Harbin Embraer is a venture that makes ERJ 145 plans in Harbin, China. HNA Group controls Hainan Airlines through Grand China Air.
