Half of Chinese users downloading mobile apps

Research firm Canalys reports that half of Chinese people surveyed have downloaded applications onto their phones. This is more than twice the level of downloads seen in Europe.
And the downloads are different. Not games as in Europe. Chinese users are reading books and learning languages on feature phones.
According to a survey of 1,515 people in China carried out by Canalys, almost 70% of Chinese users who download applications are reading books on their phones.
This is an area of an opportunity that western operators comprehensively failed to grasp, said The Register, a newsletter about IT in the UK with a tremendous reputation. European operators never saw selling applications as a worthwhile business.
