Harman to invest $100m in China

US-based audio products maker Harman (HAR.NYSE) said yesterday it will invest US$100 million to build up its existing manufacturing and research capacity in China, Bloomberg reported. Harman has already spent US$75 million in the mainland between 2007 and 2008, investing in operations in Shanghai, Suzhou and Shenzhen. The new investment will be dedicated to starting up two new operations in Dandong in northern China. The company said it is positioning itself to sell into China’s growing market for automotive, professional and consumer audio products. Harman shares rose 2.7% following the announcement.
