HBO wins China digital TV deal

China Digital Television Production (CDTV), the country's sole provider of digital cable packages, has signed a content deal with HBO Asia aimed at improving the quality and appeal of digital cable TV. Under the deal, from January 1, 2005, three HBO movies a day will be broadcast to Chinese cable TV subscribers. The deal follows a similar earlier agreement between CDTV and National Geographic TV. HBO Asia will also provide original programming for the channel under the deal, financial details of which were not given.
