Mainland stock indexes rose to one-month highs, boosted by expectations that rising prices for electricity and oil will up earnings at listed power companies. Increased power use during these hot summer months bumped up earnings at Shanghai Electric and Huaneng Power International 3.2% and 2.2% respectively.
