Heavy flooding kills 22 in Sichuan province

Twenty-two people died and another seven went missing after heavy flooding hit Sichuan province, AP reported, citing state media. Rainstorms reportedly struck a mountainous area in Panzhihua city late Sunday and early Monday. The heavy rains also triggered mud-rock flows on Monday in Powo County that blocked the main highway between Sichuan and Tibet. The landslide left more than 100 vehicles stranded by rocks and mud extending more than 70 yards on the road. Heavy rains and floods have pummeled several areas of China in the last month with 15 hikers killed three weeks ago when they were trapped in a canyon near Chongqing.
