An explosion in a coal mine in Henan province has killed 35 miners and left 44 trapped, AP reported, citing a statement by the State Administration of Work Safety. The administration said 14 miners had managed to escape; 93 miners were underground at the time of the explosion. Earlier reports had suggested only 13 miners died. The blast occurred at the Xinhua No. 4 pit in Pingdingshan, Henan at 1 a.m. on Tuesday. No information was given as to the cause of the explosion. An average of 13 workers are killed daily in China’s mines.
