Highway shares for displaced farmers

Guangdong transport authorities have proposed offering highway shares to displaced peasants to speed up land acquisition and reduce disputes, the South China Morning Post reported. The Transportation Department plans to invest US$4.4 billion in road building over five years, starting this year. Riots have erupted over land seizures recently with police shooting villagers in Dongzhou, Shanwei, allegedly killing a teenager.
