HK firms allowed to set up offices

The Ministry of Justice has granted licences to 37 law firms registered in Hong Kong to set up offices on the mainland. However, they are not permitted to practise Chinese law, but are limited to providing legal advice to foreign firms doing business in China and advice to Chinese clients on foreign law. The Hong Kong firms are allowed to form partnerships with domestic firms, but not to merge with them.
