Atlanta-based Home Depot, the world's biggest do-it-yourself group, has entered talks to acquire a 49% stake in Orient Home, one of China's leading DIY chains, the Financial Times reported, citing sources close to the deal. If successful, Home Depot will compete with B&Q, owned by UK-based Kingfisher, in China's US$50 billion home improvement market. B&Q has 22 stores in China with estimated sales of US$350 million, having bought 13 outlets from its German rival OBI. This will be Home Depot's first Asian venture.
