Guangzhou Honda Automobile, the Chinese joint venture of Japanese carmaker Honda Motor, claimed to have sold 6,454 Accord model cars in China in the first two months of this year, giving it 35 per cent of the country’s luxury car market. This was up from 29 per cent in the same period last year.
The company plans to produce a total of 55,000 vehicles in 2002, up 10 per cent from last year, comprising 45,000 Accords and 10,000 Odyssey minivans, a new model to be launched in April. A spokesman confirmed that the firm would invest Yn1.16bn of internal funds to increase future annual production capacity to 120,000 units.
