Hong Kong and Shanghai signed a deal to promote economic and
trade ties between the two cities during a visit by Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng to Hong
Kong.
This is the first formal agreement of its kind between the two cities and involves
eight areas of cooperation: airport construction and management, port operations, the
2010 World Expo in Shanghai, tourism and exhibitions, trade and investment, education
and health care, financial services, and the exchange of professionals.
During the
visit Mr Han described Shanghai as a teenager who was growing up very quickly while
likening Hong Kong to a mature adult who had already stopped growing.
